Privacy policy

The short version

We don’t collect personal data. No accounts, no tracking cookies, no analytics.

We don’t save, log or share the links you paste into the tool. The tool works entirely in your browser: your link only goes to the service you pick. Links can also arrive in the web address itself, through the byepaywall.com/ prefix shortcut (typing byepaywall.com/ in front of an article’s address) or a byepaywall.com/?url= link. Then the link is part of the address, so our host’s standard logs may record it. After your first visit, and in the installed app, ?url= links and shared links are first moved on your device into the part of the address after the #, which never reaches our server. Either way, the page removes the link from the address bar.

Saved on your device

To highlight the service you used last, the site saves its name (never the link) in your browser’s local storage. If you close the iPhone tip, that choice is saved there too. Both stay on your device and are never sent to us. Clearing your browser’s site data removes them.

The app

If you install byepaywall or visit it again, a small service worker runs in your browser. It keeps copies of the site’s pages and files on your device so the site loads quickly and works offline, and it moves shared links into the private part of the address. It doesn’t collect or send anything.

Third-party services

When you pick a service, you leave byepaywall and go to that service’s site. Their own privacy policy and terms apply there.

Hosting

Our host, Render, may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and the web addresses requested, which can include a link, as described above) to keep the site secure and running. We don’t use these logs to identify you.

Ko-fi

If you support us on Ko-fi, Ko-fi’s privacy policy applies to that payment.

Email

If you email us, we use your address only to reply.

Changes

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date above.
